Overall, I Love It

Hello readers!! I had to share another one of my favorite staples with you today...overalls! I know, so nineties... and you might not be sure about how you feel about them, but personally I'm loving that they made their way back into style! I've definitely been buying way too many overalls lately, and I have a few colors and styles, but I wanted to share my favorite basic denim pair that are also super affordable.

I picked these babies up from Forever 21 and they are so comfortable and cute! I love the button down style in the front and the crossed straps in the back. The denim is slightly distressed (which adds some nice detail), but more importantly it's stretchy so you can be comfortable in them all day long!

I paired the overalls with a basic little white tee and some major neck candy. I am such a sucker for anything silver and turquoise, and when I saw this necklace at Free People I grabbed it right away. I threw my clogs on with this outfit to play it up a little bit and pull the look together! Outfit details below! xo

Tunics and Clogs

I hope everyone had an amazing weekend!! Today I'd like to share another cute look to transition from Winter to Spring (and also gush over my new clogs).

Although it doesn't totally feel like Winter in San Diego I feel as though it's still not quite time to pull out the short shorts and crop tops. A look I love right now is a fun tunic with some cute socks and some clogs or boots! I am a huge fan of tunics, which can be thrown on over some cute skinny jeans or worn with a slip as a dress. I sized up in this Free People swing tunic so that it was long enough to be worn as a dress (and so that the sleeves were long enough for my lengthy arms). This tunic comes in a ton of colors, but I love this color scheme because it's cute for any season. I also LOVE the neck line, with a detachable button that can be worn open (paired with a cute necklace), or closed like I styled it here.

I am also a sucker for over the knee socks. I have long legs so throwing on some tall socks is a great way to show them off. The length is great because they can be pulled over the knee, or pulled down under the knee with some tall boots. However, right now I am loving the over the knee look with some clogs.

I have been waiting for these clogs to come back online (they sold out of this color!) for months, and finally they did! I snagged a pair right away, and boy am I obsessed! I love clogs because they aren't too tall and they are the perfect casual heel. I picked the tan color because it will go with so much that I have and I love that these ones are closed toed because they will look great with any pair of cute little socks. Also, there's a detachable ankle strap, which allows for personal style choice when wearing the shoes. Thanks for reading loves!

My Favorite Funky Bells

Happy Friday everyone!! Today I want to take it back to the seventies and talk about one of my favorite pieces to rock...bell bottoms!! Lately I've been majorly obsessing over bells and I wanted to share the most amazing bells in my closet. Bells are perfect for someone who is taller like me because they look great on long legs. I wear little heeled booties with these bells and they still touch the ground. However, I do know tons of shorter girls who look adorable in bells too (they just have to get them hemmed).

I picked up these beauties from Novella Royale. They make the coolest, funkiest bells in pretty much every color combo. I love the color scheme of these "sienna tangier" bells, but I am definitely ordering another pair of these babies in a different color. These printed bells are so much fun and definitely make a statement. But more importantly, they are so comfortable!! The fabric is super stretchy and soft, which also makes them perfect for snuggling up on the couch at night.

I love that these bells are high waisted so they can be worn with a crop top or a longer top. I chose to style them here with an adorable cropped black tank with a crochet trim from Urban Outfitters. However, I also love to throw a big chunky sweater over the bells for a more casual look.

I definitely think every girl could use a fun pair of printed bells in her closet (wanna be seventies child or not)! Outfit details below!

A San Diego Winter

I will never get over this 80 degree weather in January down here in San Diego. Sometimes I wish we would see some snow (or even some frost...) but I love being able to be out in nature all year long and still be able to wear a cute dress! I'm loving long flowy dresses to transition from Winter to Spring, especially when I don't feel like putting jeans on. I love the simplicity of this dress, with only a slight tightening at the bust and some pretty little crocheted details at the bottom.

I decided to step out of the box a little and add a tan harness to complete the look. The dress was just too plain to wear alone, and I couldn't find the perfect necklace, so I tried the harness and I'm loving it! The back details are so cute and the leather adds a little edge to the outfit. I pulled the look together with the perfect fringe booties (I'm a fringe fanatic, you'll come to discover) by Sam Edelman. I've also found myself obsessing over hats during the last few months. I've managed to accumulate a small collection, but I'm on the hunt for even more! I chose this long brimmed tan hat to top off my look, with a slight country feel.

I'd also like to share one of the most essential pieces in my closet...my slip!! I have found that a lot of dresses that I love are sheer or lace, which is so cute, but it can be hard to figure out what to wear underneath. I get my slips from Free People (wearing the black one here). They aren't too expensive and they are a great quality spandex. I am a bit taller so I got the larger size, which allows me to pull it up for a mini dress or pull it down longer for a maxi! I think a nice black or white slip is definitely something every girl should have in her closet! I will add a link to the slip under outfit details. Enjoy!

My Velvet Obsession

I figure it's only fitting that my first outfit post features one of my favorite velvet pieces and explains my obsession with this fabric.  I scored this little velvet dress (LVD we'll call it) from a Free People sample sale, and it was perfect for the holiday season! What I have come to love about velvet is how versatile the fabric is. It can be dressed up to look fancy, or dressed down casually (which I will show in later posts).  The fabric is soft, thick, and adds a little flair to any outfit.

I actually wore this dress on New Years Eve and to a holiday party, and everyone loved it! The color is so fun and it pairs perfectly with black heels and some silver jewelry. I love throwing on a super elaborate necklace with an outfit that needs just a little something extra. I love how this necklace has a few different shades of blue and it slightly contrasts with the color of the dress. Also, the back detailing of this dress is so fun and makes the dress that much more interesting!

So here you have it, me and my velvet obsession. I will pull in this fabric whenever I can, from velvet tops to little velvet party numbers. However, I appreciate many other fabrics and promise not to post too much of the same one! Just thought I would explain where the blog name came from and why I love it so much!

The Beginning of Something Beautiful

I am so excited to finally launch my own style blog! I figure I should begin by telling you all a little about myself and why I wanted to start this blog. My name is Maddie. I recently graduated from college and am currently trying to figure out what career path I want to follow. After moving back to San Diego (where I’m from) I decided to pick up a part-time job as a stylist for Free People. I am having such a blast working in the fashion industry and this job has actually inspired me to follow my dreams and start this blog.

I have always been fashion obsessed. I constantly have to clean out my closet to make room for my newest finds, and it seems like I can always find an excuse to buy something I love (ex: I ABSOLUTELY CAN’T live without it). My style is always evolving and I have seen myself go through several phases over the years, but this is what makes fashion so much fun. I think Rachel Zoe puts it perfectly:

“Style is a way to say who you are without having to speak”

Personal style gives everyone a chance to express themselves through their own unique style choices. Picking out what to wear is one of my favorite parts of the day, and it gives me the chance to express how I am feeling that day.

I may not be the best writer, nor am I a fashion expert, but this blog will give me a chance to share my thoughts on something that I am passionate about, and if I can inspire a few people along the way I will be one happy girl!

Thanks for reading!
xoxo
